Supergrip (UK) successfully deliver ROV releasable tip clamps

Supergrip (UK) Ltd have completed the supply of 3-off ROV releasable tip clamps on a major offshore project in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Tip Clamps were used to secure and support a Bend Stiffener Connector  (BSC) and connected Dynamic Bend Stiffener in position on the dynamic flexible riser and umbilical during installation. The Tip Clamps were manually installed topside onto the flexible riser or umbilical. The tip clamp also incorporated a control panel to operate the BSC hydraulic activation system subsea via ROV operated interfaces. Once the BSC had been successfully installed the Tip Clamp was removed subsea using 13628-8. Class-4 torque tools.

Gordon Conlon, director at Supergrip (UK) Ltd stated, “Our engineering team has many years experience of designing subsea clamping systems whether its for riser installation and recovery clamps, subsea buoyancy holdback clamps or Tip Clamps as per this project”

“These particular clamps were designed to be as lightweight as possible to assist in reducing the volume of buoyancy required for post installation recovery. We focussed on reducing the size to a minimum whilst still not exceeding the maximum allowable compressive stress that could be applied. The clamps will accept axial loads up to 36Te.and riser or umbilical diameters from 160mm to 240mm”
